HOW IT WORKS

EPA & DHA HELP SUPPORT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*

Omega-3 essential polyunsaturated fatty acids have distinct chemical structures and physiologic functions that distinguish them from other families of essential fatty acids. Often lacking in Western diets, omega-3 fatty acids compete with other fatty acids in the body for cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) enzyme metabolism, incorporation into cell membranes, and the synthesis of lipid mediators.1-3 The long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are almost exclusively marine-derived and act together to influence membrane fluidity and signal transduction pathways.4

EPA and DHA are abundantly enriched in the retina, brain, and heart tissues.5-7 Each have preferential distribution within the phospholipid bilayer of cell membranes and have been shown to exert unique biological actions.4

Humans have limited capacity to endogenously produce EPA and DHA; therefore they are considered essential fatty acids. Dietary supplementation of EPA and DHA is an effective way to increase intake of these essential fatty acids.

INTERACTIONS

FAQS

A: The lemon flavoring expands the delivery options and provides a pleasant sensory experience. The liquid can be added to smoothies, vegetables or drizzled onto a salad.

A: To reduce the risk of oxidation due to oxygen and heat after opening, it is recommended to refrigerate and consume within 100 days. Shaking the bottle is not recommended, as it causes air bubbles which can increase the risk of oxidation.

A: For children less than 50 pounds, recommendations have been made between 300 and 900 mg per day of today EPA plus DHA. For children over 50 pounds, recommendations range between 650 and 2100 mg per day of total EPA plus DHA. When using Pure Omega Liquid, this translates to 1/8 to ½ teaspoon per day for those less than 50 pounds and ¼ to 1 teaspoon for those over 50 pounds. However, these are generalized recommendations. Practitioners should individualize the dose based on the clinical needs of each child. The recommended dosing should be based on weight as well as the intended use of the fish oil supplementation. Supplementation dosage should also take dietary sources of omega-3s and omega-6s into consideration. It is best to match specific clinical research studies that mirror the intended use.

A: No. Pure Omega is broken down within the stomach where the first stage of fat digestion occurs. Due to the purity and stability of the oil, the oil does not have a fishy taste or smell. If burping, in general, without a fishy taste occurs, consume the Pure Omega products with food.

A: The sustainably harvested fish within the products include: Sardina plichardus (pacific sardine), Engranlis ringens (Pacific anchovy), and Trachurus symmetricus (mackerel), which are caught in the clean, cold waters off the coast of Peru. These fish species are members of the herring family and they are caught using the purse seine method whereby nets as long as 1200 feet and as deep as 40 feet are deployed from the main ship and a smaller ship pulls one end of the net towards the main ship, enclosing the schooling fish in a circle. The bottom is then drawn closed and the fish pulled onto the boat. Purse seiners do not affect the bottom habitat and in terms of carbon footprint, high catch rates make this fishery one of the most efficient fisheries per ton in terms of energy use.

A: Pure Omega Liquid utilizes molecular distillation, a gentle, low temperature process to prevent the long chain omega-3 fatty acids from oxidizing over time through removing contaminants and pollutants from the fish oil
